Tourmaline powder is derived from tourmaline, a group of complex borosilicate minerals formed through hydrothermal processes in igneous and metamorphic rocks. As hot, mineral-rich fluids circulate in crustal fractures, tourmaline crystals gradually deposit over millions of years, often found in pegmatite veins abundant in rare elements. Major global sources include Brazil, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Madagascar, where the mineral is mined and processed.
Raw tourmaline crystals are crushed and ground using machinery like jaw crushers and ball mills to produce fine powders, which may undergo sieving for uniform particle sizes. Its unique structure grants piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties, along with negative ion and far-infrared emission capabilities. These make it valuable in health products, cosmetics, and environmental filters, while its hardness suits industrial uses like abrasives. Tourmaline powder’s origin in geological formations ensures a blend of natural rarity and functional versatility across applications.
Tourmaline powder, valued for its piezoelectric and pyroelectric properties, finds diverse applications. In electronics, it acts as a sensor material in pressure-sensitive devices and temperature-responsive components due to its ability to generate electrical charges under mechanical stress or heat. In ceramics and coatings, it enhances thermal stability and mechanical strength, making it suitable for high-temperature resistant products like kiln linings and heat-resistant paints.
